Forgive me if this topic has already been discussed in this forum: A search didn't turn up anything relevant. I was wondering what the benefits are in buying a premium diesel fuel versus the supermarket variety I tend to buy, where price is the primary motivator. I typically buy at Tesco. A BMW friend reckons Shell V-Power diesel is the best fuel.
I disagree totally. I experimented on my 106 1.5d - on Shell V-Power is was notably smoother and quieter and had a slightly more crisp throttle response.
1) Shell V Power is marketing, if you are running a petrol engine and it's an RS then you'll get more power (because they are made for 98 Octane (E5) or better, but as a fall back can run 95 Octane (E10) - if it's not an RS then you are wasting your money. 2) Fuel Additives have been around for decades, those of us who are ancient can remember Then used shell v power diesel and run additional cleaners and fuel lubricants through the system.
